Why it matters

A real and complete transition to clean energy requires a reliable method for storing renewable and excess captured energy.

How it works

MGA Thermal are producing blocks that revolutionise how renewable energy is stored for grid and industrial use.

The blocks consist of a special material called Miscibility Gap Alloy (MGA). MGA is highly conductive and rapidly distributes heat such that the particles remain in place as they absorb the heat energy and melt. As such, the block can store large amounts of thermal energy during the solid-liquid phase change and can release the energy with minimal loss as the particles cool. The result is continuous, safe, low cost, high capacity and sustainable energy storage.

The WOW factor

The Wow Factor

MGA Blocks can be made using recycled materials and can be recycled at the end of their long 30-year lifetime. With a temperature range of up to 800°C, the blocks can support a wide range of applications - from wind and solar power storage to utility scale energy storage all the way to industrial waste heat capture.
