Jason Whitfield is an Investment Associate at Main Sequence bringing a strong academic background in biotechnology to support the firm’s focus on unlocking biotech’s potential to address worldwide challenges. 

As a former researcher, Jason maintains relationships with key players in the Australian research ecosystem, including researchers, academics, and innovation hubs. He also assists with the development and execution of investment theses and strategies for the deep tech sector.

Jason was previously managed UNSW’s Synthetic Biology startup accelerator — SynBio10x. In addition to his role at Main Sequence, he also serves as the Non Executive Director at the Australasian SynBio Challenge. Prior to this, he was a recipient of the CSIRO Synthetic Biology Future Science Platforms Fellowship where he researched novel methods towards biosensor platforms. 

Jason holds a PhD in Philosophy, Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science Honors in Chemistry from the Australian National University. He also earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.
